Our Technology
Our process is an extention of known ion-sieve adsorbent technology. Lithium will be selectively captured and purified until we reach battery grade purity. The process can be made to be completely passive (without energy input), thereby reducing both costs, emmissions and energy need dramatically compared to other methods.
- Problem: Extraction of Lithium today is mostly done through hard-rock mining and salt lake evaporation. These methods are energy and area intensive respectively
- Solution: Our system in comparison is very compact and can function passively. It can also function on a broad variety of input streams, including active battery mass ("black mass") from spent li-ion batteries
- Benefits: The passive nature of our process will reduce the costs of production, while also allowing for ~zero emmission extraction
- Status: The technology is currently being developed in the laboratory at The Norwegian University of Science and Technology - NTNU, where the team is consistently working on the Proof of Concept (PoC)
